Ghatagaon Tarini present in Keonjhar District of Odisha(India). Maa Tarini is always depicted as a red face with two large eyes and a mark in the middle which serves as an indication for a nose and also a tilak. Its is a beautiful temple for everyone. Morning view of this temple is beautiful. Me with my friends went to Ghatagaon in the month of Oct. Climate was very good with little cold wind.
Embodiment of ‘shakthi’. It is both tantric and shakthi place. The goddess Maa Tarini is mostly worshipped by the tribals. The temple has large area, enclosed by a high walled compound. There is a inner courtyard which houses the shrine of the deity, there are no walls for the sanctum santorium. We can see huge mounds of coconuts in the compound.
The present structure in its initial stage was constructed around 14th century with predominate tribal rituals in place. Over time vedic influences has been seen though it still remains a prominent center of Shaktism. Legends of Maa Tarini dates back to Ramayana era (yuga), when Sri Ram installed and prayed to this divinity on way to southern India.
Chaiti Yatra is the most popular and famous festival of this place celebrated in the month of April. Generally it celebrates between the last 5 days of Chaitra and the first 2 days of Baisakha i.e. from 9–15 April of every year. The first day of Baisakha is treated as the Odia New Year (ଓଡ଼ିଆ ନବବର୍ଷ)।
No one has come empty handed from Maa’s temple. Maa has always answered the prayers of her devotees. Maa’s has given each one of them what they deserve to get. Maa needs nothing from her devotees except few things like dedication, pureness and love.
