Tirupati city located at southeastern Andhra Pradesh state, south India. It lies in the Palkonda Hills, about 7.5 miles (Approx 13 km) northeast of Chandragiri and 67 miles (108 km) northwest of Chennai in Tamil Nadu state.


The first temple at Tirumala Tirupati was built by King Thondaiman, Tamil ruler of the ancient Thondaimandalam, after he had a dream of Lord Vishnu. He is said to have built the original Gopuram (tower) and the Prakhara in the 8th century.

Notably, Tirupati Balaji temple is the most popular temple on the earth today inviting the maximum number of devotes on any given day and attracting the largest amount of donations from them on a daily basis.


Lord Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala (Tirupati) is one of the most famous temples in India. With more than 35 million pilgrims visiting the temple every year, it is one of the most visited holy places and also one of the richest temples in the world. Built on the Venkata Hill, which is a part of the famous Seshachalam Hills, Tirupati Temple is considered as one of the holiest shrines by the Hindus. According to a legend, Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Sri Venkateswara to save mankind from the adversities of Kali Yuga.

Tirupati is home to a unique geological wonder that you shouldn’t miss out on. The Silathoranam is a natural arch formed out of rocks and is located at the Tirumala Hills. This natural rock formation is one of the only three of its kind in the entire world and is an important archaeological landmark.
