Ratnagiri is the birthplace of Lokmanya Tilak as well as the workplace of Swatantryaveer Savarkar and Ratnagiri is known as the land of Vardamuni, Parshuram. In the Middle Ages, many European travelers and regiligious preachers visited the coast of Konkan. The ancient Konkan was ruled by Maurya, Satvahan, Trakootak, Chalukya, Rashtrakut, Shilahar, Kadamba and Yadav dynasties. During the Satavahana, the caves of Panhalakaji were the center of the study and spread of Buddhism. It is also mentioned at many places that there was sea trade between Ratnagiri and overseas. Ratnagiri is the land of three ‘Bharatratn’, such as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, P.V. Kane and Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve. Apart from this, King Thiba of Bramhadesh was imprisoned in the Ratnagiri district by the then British government. Citizens of Myanmar and high officials visit time to time to Thiba Palace and Thiba King Tomb in Ratnagiri city. Ratnagiri district has become welknown, due to freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, who had been captured in Ratnagiri by the British government.

Swayambhu Ganpati Temple,


  Located at Ganpatipule in Ratnagiri district, the Swayambhu Ganapati temple is a temple you must add to your bucket list because it is an old, majestic temple whose beauty cannot be experienced merely through photographs. It is as old as 4000 years. It is dedicated to Lord Ganpati. 
At a distance of 1 km from Ganpatipule Bus Stand, Swayambhu Ganapati Temple is an ancient temple situated on Ganpatipule Beach in Maharashtra. It is one of the top places to visit in Ganpatipule and also one of the popular Ganesh Temples in Maharashtra.


  The temple of Swayambhu Sri Abhista Gnana Ganapathi situated at Mayuri Greenlands is 5 km away from the Kurnool city. The temple was constructed under the management of Mr. & Mrs. Jampala Madhusudhan Rao, who are also the trustees of "Jampala Abhinai Charitable Trust (JACT)". Here is a brief history regarding how this idol of Lord Vinayaka came into existence.

Jaigad Fort,


Jaigad fort - The meeting point of the river Shashtri and Arebian Sea is called as the creek of Jaigad. For the protection of this creek two forts were constructed, one is ViJaigad at the north direction and the other is Jaigad at south.
Jaigad fort is besides the village Jaigad. Vehicles can reach up to the main entrance of the fort by a tar road. There is a deep pit (Khandak) around the fort on east and north direction. On the right side of the bastion near to the main door, there is a door to enter into the deep pit. After entering through this door, steps are there to reach to the fortifications of the fort. The fortifications are still in strong and sound condition.
Ganapatipule beach,

Thibaw Point,


    Thibaw Point is the place where the lovely mansion, The Thebaw Palace is located. Built in the year 1910, the palace is famed as the exile shelter of the king and the queen of Burma (Myanmar).
 Thibaw Point is also a thriving spot for picnickers, and it gives a panoramic view of the entire city. People gather here in large groups to see the stunning view of the sunset. The Thibaw Point, nestled in the lap of the majestic Arabian Sea, presents a picturesque view of a dense village. Situated at the edge of a hill, this point is a fast emerging tourist destination in Ratnagiri that offers delightful sceneries of a pristine land.
Murud Beach,




 Murud is known for its widespread sandy beaches adorned with majestic forts and outlined by palms and coconut trees, creating a perfect holiday scenery.

 Murud, in the Raigad district with resorts and natural beauty beckoning you is the place to be for a relaxed, modest vacation, with sparkling golden beaches. Situated in the town of Dapoli, the Murud beach is one of the most happening beaches of the city. Be its scenic views of the surrounding landscape or adventurous water sports; you can find both of these things here. Jaigad Lighthouse,


 The lighthouse of Jaigad was built in the year 1832 and is situated on the western edge of Jaigad Fort. The Jaigad lighthouse was built by British army officer John Oswald and is around 180 years old. The lighthouse is open until 5 pm, except Sundays. It guides ships sailing in between the regions of Dabhol and Ratnagiri.


 Jaigad Fort is a coastal fortification located near Jaigad village and is one of the most popular forts in Konkan region. The Jaigad lighthouse is situated on one of the bastion on the western edge of this Fort. The lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the area, as it situated atop a hill.

Ratnadurga Fort



 Ratnadurg fort, Bhagavati temple and light house: The above three are part of a hill spur at the west-most tip of Ratnagiri city. Ratnadurg fort and Bhagavati temple are part of the same hill top campus and was built by the famed Maratha admiral Kanhoji Angre, whose navy made the Marathas under Chhatrapati Shivaji a dominating force in the west coast of India. Apart from the hill top, there is an interesting natural wonder to see at the base of the hill, where the sea keeps crashing into the rocks. The sea has formed a natural cave at the base of the rocks. From the top of Ratnadurg, one can see the northern coastline of Ratnagiri city, which includes Pandhra Samudra.
